Our Trip Exploring Prague | Part. 1

Hey babes, because of Simply Classic Events' most recent event in Prague, we decided to tell you all about the city and our trip! We're giving you all the ins and outs of tackling Prague and having a romantic and fun vacation!

Prague is a popular destination for first-time travelers, study abroad students and wanderlusts alike, and it’s no question as of why: the city is situated in the North-West of Czechia, is conveniently nestled in between Slovakia, Austria, Poland and Germany, and is known for its baroque buildings, gothic churches and historic old town. I know it's a lot to take in, but don't worry we've got you covered. Let's start at the beginning, the #1 thing you MUST do (and we did, right after checking into our hotel) is visit the Charles Bridge.

You probably have already seen misty pre-dawn photos of this long bridge, which connects the Old and New Towns and was covered with street artists and entertainers. It has some of the best views in the city including the Vltava River.We recommend you go at night, though, as you get a magical view of the Prague Castle shining off the water.

Another must-see, and perhaps what the city is most famous for, is the medieval Prague Astronomical Clock adorning the Old Town Hall. This clock has an astronomical dial, which represents the location of the sun and moon, as well as an hourly show of moving sculptures. Just be careful to plan you visit when the clock isn't under construction, or you'll really miss out!

What we found best was grabbing a muled wine at the cafe directly across from the clock and watching it from there, you get bypass the crowds that show up every hour and enjoy a cocktail while watching it do its thing!

If we could spend our afternoons wandering through the Prague Castle, we would. The castle dates back to the ninth century and was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia. And it may sounds weird but their cafe has some of the best tagliatelle pasta we have ever had, beyond delicious!

A short walk from the Prague Castle took us to the historic cobbled streets of the Mala Strana. This neighborhood is a center for tourism and made for amazing photos with old Bohemian-looking storefronts and centuries old building facades. Although walking down the main street is fun, we loved winding our way into the neighborhood and away from the tourist zones for traditional Czech food and romantic strolls.

(This is right after shelby and Chris got ENGAGED in the Vrtba Garden which is considered to be one of the most important and most beautiful Baroque gardens in the world! )

For more breathtaking views of the Vltava River and all of Prague’s bridges, head to Letenske Sady or Letna Park. I like to picnic here and take in the gothic spires that give Prague the nickname, “the city of a hundred spires.”

Prague is known for its beer and you can always visit he neighboring city of Pilsen, which is known for creating the world’s first pilsner beer We wanted to stay in the city, and even found a Beer Spa: beer facials, massages and the very famous beer baths!

Although it wasn't in the books for us this time around, we're dying to go back and take a trip to the Czech countryside. We've heard that a short train ride from the capital city will take you to Karlštejn Castle. This large Gothic castle was built in 1348 CE by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor-elect and King of Bohemia. The castle served as a place for safekeeping the Imperial Regalia as well as the Bohemian/Czech crown jewels, holy relics, and other royal treasures. The castle is surrounded by the idyllic Czech countryside, which is perfect if you need a break from busy Prague.

Last but not least, Prague is known for its nightlife and arts and culture scene. There are museums devoted to sex, torture, textiles, contemporary art and sculpture, so whatever you are interested in, chances are the there’s a museum for you. Dancing House is a bar with the best views of Prague, but the city is crawling with beer halls and pubs, beer gardens, jazz clubs, nightclubs and wine bars. I suggest periodically popping into bars or museums while you’re strolling through the city to try and get a comprehensive view of all that Prague has to offer.
